Snow in Seattle

The snow outside my window this morning inspires me to post this.

Here's one of my very first HDR Images, not to mention DSLR pictures. Shot Christmas Eve, just four years ago.

Merry "Snowmageddon 2012" Western Washington!

A Homecoming

I took some photos the other day of a Sailor, Pilot, Husband, and new father returning home from tour.  Some people thanked me for taking or sharing the images.

Yet I can say with absolute certainty that the honor was mine!

They are as kind, warm, and wonderful a family as they come. I may be a little biased since this solider's wife is my sister-in-law...

But, one of the greatest things to me about being a photographer is the honor of being invited to have a front row seat into some of the most personal, intimate, and special moments in a person's life. When I got to watch the family reunite I forgot I was taking photos, that part just happened naturally. Everything except the beauty and bond that love forges fell away, and the love they shared was in frame.

Halloween and American Gothic

I've been searching all over Seattle looking for a 3 Tine Pitchfork to Recreate this Image on Halloween.  It's a lot harder than you might think!  I've moved on from traditional stores and am calling Antique Stores.  People think I'm crazy and they're probably mostly right! =)

A controversial topic with photography... What do you think?

Ansel Adams may have spent more time manipulating his images in the darkroom than any other well known photographer of his time. He took negatives and merged them, he played with light... Yet there seems to be this heated debate between, "Photographic purists", "traditional photographers", "modern photographers", graphic designers, and everyone in between about the definition of photography.  Where is that line between a photo, and a man made graphic?

I personally like what Trey Ratcliff of Stuck in Customs has to say about the topic in the following video.  But, I'm really curious to hear what you have to say.  My sister and I firmly disagree on where the line is drawn between photography and graphic design.  What's your opinion? Does it matter? Do you care one way or the other? Do you wish you knew more about the topic? Share.

Learning, Evolving, and some Eye Candy...

This afternoon I'm in the process of watching a three-day 9am-4pm course with one of my favorite companies: CreativeLIVE.   Meanwhile I'm working on the website to make sure people have all the right information on how they can hire.

Want some eye candy? Check out this short clip that my wife and I created during a camping trip on the Olympic Peninsula a few weeks ago.
